Monday evening.

So, I'm being a loser.

Bringing work to home. I can't resist it. I went home early (at 7pm) because my toe is severely swollen. Thanks to a 10-lb dumb bells.

So, I'm being a real loser.

Never mind the preacher who taught life-work balance. It sucks, but what the heck?

Retirement for Dummies

My dad retired his jersey in 1999.

He left a 25-year old career in pharmaceutical industry. There were no regrets. He sure did it with a bang. The past year he was awarded one of the best corporate managers, the 3rd time in a row. So, it was a good time to retire. Even at a young age of 47.

Remember Michael Jordan. He nailed the final second shot that clinched the Bulls its 6th crown in the decade. Then, he called it quits.

My dad's story was different. He wanted to retire from a dog-eat-dog corporate world. He wanted to give more time for himself and his family. He wanted more time to reflect and time to enjoy.

Michael Jordan returned to the scene three years thereafter. But my dad did not. His colleagues went to consulting and started a business. My dad sold insurance, a less glamorous career. Until now, he's still selling insurance contracts.

So after 10 years, my dad has semi-retired. Even from selling insurance contracts. At present, he plays chess online, read a lot of books, take care of the dog, take care of his apos and get to see more NBA games, the Olympics and the evening news.

It made all a real difference. You get to have more time with your family. You get to read all the books that you want. You get updated with the latest news and NBA highlights. You get to learn a new hobby. And virtually, you can do whatever you want - even update an old blog.

This is what retirement is all about.

On Meetings

After ilang buwan na hindi ako nag-aattend ng meeting, nabigla ako. Yung masama pa dun, inaantok pa ako at iniisip ko yung pagkain na nasa harapan ko. Mukhang spaghetti yata. Nagtatakaw na naman ako. I did not bother to listen to the arguments - pano daw makaka-affect ang sobrang financing sa leverage ng isang company.

Badtrip. So pinipigilan ko yung sarili ko hindi kainin yung spaghetti kasi naman 'im on a diet' nga daw. Pero dahil inaantok ako sa pakikinig bakit yung interest rates ng bangko sentral should be in line with inflation (Kasi nga daw inflation targeting), kinain ko na talaga.

Ayun, nabusog ako. Tapos may ksama pang iced tea. At sana ganito yung mga meetings lagi.
